For the sake of sustainability, today’s businesses are reintroducing patchwork aesthetics. From offering resale and its first circular shop in 2021 to establishing a denim recycling programme, Madewell is now increasing its commitment to sustainability with the debut of a limited edition, dual-gendered collaboration with Brooklyn-based inventive design company Storytellers & Creators. With one-of-a-kind denim patchwork pieces including a bucket hat, bag, patchwork leggings, and more, the line capitalises on the trendy patchwork trend (all up-cycled from drop-sample denim scraps). Vintage quilts are being used to create a new line of work jackets, chinos, and hats. Other manufacturers, like Alex Mill, are also pushing patchwork-based repurposed collections. ReWork, a collaboration with Blank Supply, is a limited capsule of handcrafted, one-of-a-kind work jackets, chinos, and hats constructed from old quilts.
