Alibaba’s Maker Festival held in Guangzhou revolved around the theme of “The Future Land”, where young entrepreneurs were supported by an entrepreneurship forum and celebrated the creativity of youth. The event was organised by Taobao, a C2C online marketplace. This programme was focused on the future, virtual tours, avatars, and other futuristic concepts were highlighted. These concepts were exhibited through smart technologies and sustainable living. Taobao’s general manager, Wenfei Han, says that the reason this event intrigues Gen Z consumers is not that it introduces them to innovative products but because it allows them to shape new trends and consumer culture. Han says that Gen Z is focused on maintaining quality and is willing to spend on products that improve some aspects of life, including personal appearance and pet care.
