According to a report, 1/3rd of all food produced goes to waste. The textile industry, accounting for 6.7% of all emissions, has tried food waste reduction efforts. Systems are producing fibres from organic waste. 12 companies are quite active in these innovations. Agraloop is transforming organic waste into BioFibre. Allegorie produces high-quality, cruelty-free, and PVC-free accessories out of discarded fruits, and ALTTEX creates sustainable polyester alternatives from food waste. Similarly, Ananas Anam has developed a plant-based leather made from pineapple leaf fibre waste called Piñatex. Bananatex makes fibres from naturally grown bananas, and Bolt Threads and Desserto make leather from mycelium and nopal cactus, respectively. A symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast has been used to make Kombucha Couture and citrus by-products have produced Orange Fiber. QMilk fibre is made from cow milk and S.Café from used coffee grounds, whereas Vegea produces plant-based products from wine waste. All of these contribute towards sustainability and an eco-friendly environment.
