Burberry became the first fashion brand to have garnered approval from the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) regarding its goals and plans toward reaching net-zero emissions. This affirms that the company is using the latest climate science to keep warming below 1.5 degrees C. Burberry aims to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 95% by 2023 and maintain it through 2040 from the 2017 base year. Similarly, it has a goal of reducing scope 3 emissions by 46% by 2030 and 90% by 2040, starting from 2019 as a base year. Scope 1 and 2 come from operations, and scope 3 from the supply chain of the brand. According to the Vice President, measurement, improvement, and transparency across operations are the ways to go.
