The textile business suffers several sustainability difficulties, ranging from its reliance on finite resources such as water and oil to its environmental effect through pollution and waste. The garment sector is responsible for up to 20% of global wastewater discharge, which frequently contains harmful chemicals and plastic microfibers. Spinnova, a Finnish textile startup, was founded to give a more environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional cotton industry. The company does not use any hazardous chemicals; instead, it employs wood fibres and a small amount of water.

Fibres are completely biodegradable and compostable, which eliminates the need for hazardous disposal methods and reduces environmental impact. In 2018, the firm secured USD 7.5 million from investors and has collaborated on sustainable materials with a number of prominent fashion labels, including H&M and Marimekko. Spinnova is still a relatively new participant in the textile sector, and it is continually expanding its production capacity.
