The appeal of Depop: Gen Z’s obsession with second-hand shopping

Depop, a peer-to-peer fashion marketplace app, has transformed the way Generation Z shops. It enables regular individuals to simply purchase and sell their own clothes while also offering a platform for others to start startups selling trendy products. Etsy just purchased the London-based firm for $1.625 billion in the summer of 2021. eBay, a corporation comparable to Depop, recognised the popularity of used clothing buying among Generation Z and launched a campaign with the famous TV show ‘Love Island’ in 2022. Other businesses are evolving in response to the generation’s devotion to sustainability, with PrettyLittleThing and Zara both establishing second-hand markets in 2022 and Selfridges introducing ‘ReSelfridges’ in 2020.
