Turkey’s Garment Industry Unscathed by Earthquake, says IHKIB

The earthquake that hit Turkey recently has raised concerns about the country’s garment industry, however, the Istanbul Clothing and Textile Exporters’ Association (IHKIB) says the industry is unlikely to be affected.

The garment industry is mostly based in Istanbul, which accounts for around 75% of the country’s export, and the organization does not expect any real influence on production. While the effects of the earthquake are still being assessed, the IHKIB expressed their condolences for those who lost their lives and the injured. As of now, the official figures indicate that over 2,818 buildings have collapsed in Turkey and more than 5,000 people have been injured, while across the border in Syria, over 1,000 injuries have been reported, with these numbers expected to rise in the coming days.
