Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week returns, showcasing indigenous designers

After a two-year absence due to COVID-19, Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week is returning to the city. In a series of catwalk presentations, VIFW will highlight 32 indigenous fashion designers from around the continent. Himikalas, also known as Pam Baker, is of Dzawada’enuxw, Kwaguilth, Tlingit, and Haida heritage.

This year’s Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week (VIFW) kicks off with an emotional Red Dress Event honouring missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and LGBTQ2S+ people. Joleen Mitton, the organization’s founder, has developed a mentorship programme for 16 Indigenous kids and young adults. The Wisdom Circle is a group of Indigenous leaders from three nations who will work together to create and sustain culturally safe and respectful events.
