Vivienne Tam’s obsession with virtual fashion is still alive and well, as she presented two shows in New York’s Spring Studios, as well as a virtual show in the metaverse for her autumn 2023 collection and NFTs. The current collection is inspired by the previous one, which extensively incorporated fashion’s new language of NFT symbolism, represented as Bored Apes and Cyberkongs stitched onto tangible garments. Tam was motivated by a futuristic utopian vision of a new Hong Kong in which Web 3.0, blockchain, virtual game worlds, and immersive experiences coexist and interact. The twin performances expanded on the notion, with the virtual version mimicking the real-life event down to the red carpet and backstage access to the after party. Swan Sit and Wond3r planned and built the virtual show, which was produced in partnership with CyberPort, a Web3 technology incubator in Hong Kong.
